The High School Affiliated to Xi’an Jiaotong University, with a history of nearly 100 years, can be traced back to its predecessor, Nan Yang Public School. In 1896, Nan Yang Public School established a secondary educational institution whose original function was to serve as a feeder school in order to provide the university with qualified students. After the migration to west of Xi’an Jiaotong University, the High School Affiliated Xi’an Jiaotong University was established in 1959, and was rebuilt in 1981.
Based on the practical mind, the creativity and its persevering efforts, the High School Affiliated to Xi’an Jiaotong University has got fruitful results in recent years. The long history, rich culture and humanistic atmosphere make our school outstanding among its peers, attracting the most talented students in large area. It has been successively honored with a hundred of titles for its high and versatile quality, ranging from national ones and regional ones. In 1991, it became the key high school both in Shaanxi Province and in Xi’an City; and successively, it was honored with the titles of “the National Model Base of Science Research”, “the National Civilized High School”, “the National Creative High School” , “the National Red-Cross Model School” and “Green School in Xi’an City” etc. With the complete and top facilities, the modernization of management and teaching has been coming true.
As the high school affiliated to Xi’an Jiaotong University, one of the top universities in China, our school has been profoundly benefited from this university. We are committed to our mission: to cultivate students with Self-Cultivation, Responsibility, Creativity, Leadership and International Outlook. We strike to educate the students to become outstanding talents in terms of moral goodness, academic performance, and the fine art of leadership to adapt the quick changing world.
The humane education is well-developed in our school as well as the science education. We attach importance not only to the all-round development of students, but also to their individual interests. In that case, we can lay a solid foundation for students’ lifelong education to promote their development and the whole society.
With the support of Xi’an Jiatong University and the superior education authorities of the province and City, the education conditions and facilities are much more improving. In August, 2007, the new campus of our school had been put into practice. It locates in the technological park of Xi’an Jiaotong University, which is the only knowledge-intensive park in Northwest area. With the 130 Mu campus area, teaching buildings of more than 20,000㎡, students’ dormitory of 18,000㎡, Restaurant of 4000㎡, the stadium and 18 laboratories, computer room, reading rooms, our new campus will be one of the best high schools in Xi’an. The Committee of the National Biology Competition has decided that the 2009 National Biology Competition will be held in our new campus. The construction of our new campus also gets great support from Shaanxi provincial government, which makes it more possible for us to hold the competition.
We emphasize the integral development of students, physically and morally. Our students are active in variety of extracurriculum activities and student associates in school. Campus Art Festival, sports meeting and other activities are held every year. Associations such as music, dancing, and painting and drawing, drama etc are popular among students. Training bases of basketball, table tennis, classes for kinds of chesses are all contributed to enrich school life of our students. Different interests are fully respected and encouraged. Our versatile teaching faculty offer students many opportunities to make full play of their talents through all the activities. The ultimate goal of our education is to “pursue suitable education for every student”. We especially guide our students to love and care people around them and to be grateful for the society, community, parents, teachers and classmates in hope of cultivating good mannered and decent boys and girls.
The extensive international exchange has been conducted especially in recent years, to foster talents with an international outlook, another education trait of our school. Over 20 schools and organizations from Korea, Singapore, UK, USA, France, and Australia and Japan and the ones in HK and Macau are our active cooperation partners，among which there are University School, Carmel Central School District (New York) in US, Four Dwellings High School in UK, Overseas Chinese Middle School, Hwa Chong Institution, Singapore, etc.
Hundreds of our faculty and students have been abroad for exchange programs. International exchange programs help to promote overall quality of our school in the world, and also cultivate our students with high qualities and an international perspective, which is helpful to channel our students into the world famous universities and academic institutions. Our graduates spread out all over the world, Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, National University of Singapore, IBM Company, and Mckinsey Company, to name just a few. Our students won many kinds of competitions, ranging from international Olympic competitions to national contests for the subjects of high school. In July, 2007, our student-Gao Zhongqi, as the top one in Shaanxi Province, won the Bronze medal of the 16th National Biology Competition; in December, 2007, seven students from our school won the first prize of Shaanxi Province in the National Chemistry Competition, and Peng Yang, as the top one in Shaanxi, won the only Golden Medal for Shaanxi, and so on.
The creative scientific education infiltrates the teaching of every subject. In December 2006, our school was named” the Model School of Intellectual Property Right” by the Provincial Bureau of Intellectual Property Right. Our delegation took part in the Eighth International Olympic Competition of Robot held in Australia, and got the bronze medal. In July, 2007, we had an excellent performance in the First National Creativity Competition and won the Golden Medal as a team, in which 20 students won the first prize. During this activity, our Principal, Ms. Wang Peidong was regarded as the creative principal and was praised by the National Bureau of Intellectual Property Right and the Provincial one.
Since the fall of 2007, the new course reform was practiced in all senior high schools in Shaanxi Province, which even more highly stressed students’ practical and creative ability. Our teaching idea just coincides with this reform, which helps us rank tops in the city and province.
In future, our school will firmly continue to promote the quality-oriented education and practice the teaching idea of whole-person education to make our school leading in the province and top-grade in China.
The High School Affiliated to Xi’an Jiaotong University has faithfully observed the educational concept that following the laws of education, cultivating students as basis, building sound characters, and improving comprehensive qualities.
