April 9, Dr. William Daniel Phillips, Nobel Laureate in Physics, arrived on campus for a science lecture. William D. Phillips was born in the state of Pennsylvania He is a Physicist and a professor at MIT. He shared the Nobel Prize in Physics, in 1997, with Steven Chu and Claude Cohen-Tannoudjifor their contributions to laser cooling, a technique to slow the movement of gaseous atoms in order to better study them. Dr. Phillips came to China for the invitation to 120 anniversary ceremony of Xi’an Jiaotong University. He delivered a representative speech on the Initiation of Building a World-class University.
Dr. Phillips answered each question from students. He shared his growth, thoughts on life and research and gave students lots of encouragement. In the guest book, Dr. Phillips wrote, ‘Keep curious about the world, work hard, and stay passionate.’
