April 23, after going on for 2 months, Politics, Geography and History Festival came to an end. From high-level lecture at the beginning to history interview in the end, this festival features its own characteristics in planning and organization. Each one of HSXJTU teachers and students was led into a temple of humanism. “Grow with Children” was well exemplified.
During the two months, students attended the profound lecture titled nature and humanistic impact of Calendar, watched geographical movies and participated in environmental wishes. Through all these activities, students came to appreciate the wondrous nature and its influence on human activities. Their awareness of nature protection is also greatly boosted.
Students also went on a series of field trips called “See the world through dragon’s eyes” including Guanzhong Folk Art Museum, Cuihua Mountain Geographical expedition, Qin&Han tile making. Students were able to step out of classroom and go into the real world to get greater social involvement which benefits their ability to observe and understand nature and society. By watching a documentary on US vs. Iraq War and interview history, students learn to approach history critically.
Debates on current affairs were launched to broaden students’ horizons and enhance their social responsibility and their speaking skills. Teaching research and training was carried out to help teachers with their professional growth which included professional guide, exploring instruction art and resources integration.
The success of this festival makes our school-based curriculum more specific. When curriculum presents itself in vivid motion and three-dimensional way, it also helps include philosophy and rich culture into education practice and in turn encourages teachers to grow with children.
