The Shing-Tung Yau Math Competition for high school students who are interested in mathematics research and innovation was held in Tsinghua University on November 27. Congratulations to our grade 2 student Wang Zuzihan, who won the second prize in the north finals of this competition.

In recent years, our school introduced a series of courses such as Advanced Placement Course, Mathematical Modeling course to cultivate students’ mathematical creativity. Our student Wang Zuzihan’s essay “The comments and suggestions for Chinese current tax system” which is regarding mathematical modeling was get to the finals through two round of expert assessments. On November 27, there were 10 teams from 15 provinces reached the finals. Wang Zuzihan, as the only selected delegate of Shaanxi Province, through fierce competition, won the second prize honor in north finals eventually.

Professor Shing-Tung Yau workes at Haverd University since 1987. he is also involved in the activities of mathematics research and become an international famous mathematician. His efforts in math area earned his numerous much-coveted awards such as Fields Medal(1982), Crafooed Prize(1994) and Wolf Prize(2010). In addition to his research interests, he is active in educational reform for primary and secondary school mathematics in China. The Shing-Tung Yau Math Award for Secondary School Student Award was established in 2008, which aims to stimulate Chinese students’ interest in mathematics research and innovation ability. Meanwhile, this award is also an encouragement and recognition of teachers’ contribution.
