November 20 afternoon when our school was still celebrating our 2nd Chemistry Festival, Professor Zheng Qinghua generously accepted our invitation to give a lecture to 12 graders on the challenges and chances that cognitive study may encounter in cyber mega-data era.

Pofessor Zheng Qinghua has many titles, post-doctor of Harvard, honor professor accredited by Education Ministry and winner of national youth Foundation, candidate for China’s New Centennial thousands talents Project, Head of Teaching team of ‘Computer network and system structure ’,Dean of Computer Science. His main research area includes AI e-learning and Internet Public Opinion.

In his well-grounded case based lecture, Prof. Zheng illustrated the phenomenon in simple words. The data accruing on internet grow so fast that it is already beyond the reach of any data management tool available. We have to introduce the unit T which we call mega-data to number them, millions and billions. Prof. Zheng shed lights on the prospect of mega-data widely applied in areas like Physics, Biology, Eco biology, Autonomous Control, Military, Telecommunication and finance and etc.

In the end Prof Zheng addressed some students’ questions like information science, and XJTU’s admission policy.
